The Whitsunday Regional Council Australia Day Awards celebrate the achievement and contribution of individuals and organisations in our region.

These awards are an opportunity to publicly acknowledge those who have made an extraordinary contribution or is an outstanding achiever.

If you know of a person of community group dedicated to making the Whitsunday region a better place, help us recognise their efforts and nominate them for a 2019 Whitsunday Regional Council Australia Day Award.

Nominate someone who deserves recognition by completing the short form below! Nominations close 5pm, Wednesday 31 October 2018.


Award Categories


Citizen of the Year - Recognising those who have made a noteworthy contribution to the betterment of the Whitsunday Region and/or given outstanding service to the local community for the past 12 months or over a number of years. Age Requirement: 27 years or older as at 26 January 2019.

Young Citizen of the Year - Recognising those who have made a noteworthy contribution to the betterment of the Whitsunday Region and/or given outstanding service to the local community. Age Requirement: 16 - 26 years as at 26 January 2019.

Senior Citizen of the Year -Recognising those who have made a noteworthy contribution to the betterment of the Whitsunday Region and/or given outstanding service to the local community in the past 12 months or over a number of years. Age Requirement: 60 years or older as at 26 January 2019.

Sports Administrator Award - Recognising those who through their involvement in sport as an administrator, official or coach have made a significant contribution to the growth, development and / or increased participation of their sport within the Whitsunday Region. Requirement: The person must be a duly appointed Coach, Official, or Administrator.

Senior Sportsperson Award - Recognising those who have an outstanding record of achievement in sports. Age Requirement: 19 years or older as at 26 January 2019.

Junior Sportsperson Award - Recognising those who have an outstanding record of achievement in sports. Age requirement: 18 years or younger as at 26 January 2019.

Senior Cultural Award - Recognising those who have made a noteworthy contribution to the cultural life of the community or an outstanding achievement in a cultural activity. Individuals who are creating partnerships to benefit the arts and culture of the community and/or raising the awareness and value of arts and culture. Age Requirement: 19 years or older as at 26 January 2019.

Junior Cultural Award - Recognising those who have made a noteworthy contribution to the cultural life of the community or an outstanding achievement in a cultural activity. Individuals who are creating partnerships to benefit the arts and culture of the community and/or raising the awareness and value of arts and culture. Age Requirement: 18 years or younger as at 26 January 2019.

Community Event of the Year - Recognising individuals, informal groups or formal organisations who have made a significant and beneficial contribution to the wellbeing or liveability of the Whitsunday Region through projects, activities or events in the past 12 months.

Wally Hinschen Volunteer of the Year Award - Recognising those who have made a noteworthy contribution as a volunteer in the southern Whitsunday region. (No age requirement)
