The walls of our new 12.5 megalitre water reservoir have been installed recently, with a crane onsite lifting each wall panel into place.

This is the first tank of two to be installed as part of Council’s Cannon Valley Reservoir Project, which is located at the top of the hill near Hamilton Avenue in Cannon Valley.

The new tank will double the potable water supply for Airlie Beach and Cannonvale, and provide greater resilience during severe weather events by giving us far greater water capacity.

The new network will supply gravity-fed potable water from the new Reservoir to Airlie Beach, Cannonvale, Proserpine, Mt Julian and surrounding communities. Currently, the Airlie Beach and Cannonvale area has only one large Reservoir located between Jones Road and Shute Harbour Road. In the past, severe weather events have impacted the water supply. With the construction of an extra Reservoir facility, we have a far greater water capacity, diversity of Reservoirs and ability to respond more quickly during severe weather events.

This $9.2 million project is co-funded by the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund.

The Reservoirs were officially opened in October.
