Whitsunday Regional Council is delivering a new Cannonvale Community Hub — a $30 million project proudly supported by $15 million from the Australian Government, alongside Council funding.

The Hub will bring together a modern library, customer service centre, meeting rooms and flexible community spaces into one contemporary, efficient and welcoming facility. This new space will support a growing population of around 24,000 by 2046 and create a vibrant civic heart within Galbraith Park — a place for learning, connection and community life, with indoor and outdoor spaces that connect seamlessly with the surrounding parkland. Construction has commenced early May 2026, with completion expected by late 2027, weather permitting. View our fact sheet for more information.

Construction at a Glance

Construction commenced early May 2026, with early works including site establishment, construction fencing and earthworks.

Work hours will generally occur between 6:30am and 6:30pm, Monday to Saturday. Residents may notice increased construction traffic accessing the site via Shute Harbour Road and the Garden Shack entrance, as well as some construction noise during work hours.

As construction progresses, works will include establishment of building foundations, installation of essential services and ongoing development of the Hub, followed by connection to water and sewer infrastructure and surrounding park upgrades.

Community Access

Galbraith Park will remain open for the majority of users during early construction stages, with site fencing in place around the Hub location at the southern end of the park.

Access to the Garden Shack and customer parking will remain available, with construction access primarily occurring via Shute Harbour Road. Council will work closely with park users including Landcare and Whitsunday Organic Community Gardens to manage impacts throughout construction.

Later stages of construction, including Galbraith Drive access works and park upgrades, may result in temporary changes to movement within the park. Further updates will be provided ahead of these works.
