1 November 2023 Update

Council’s 2-week Collinsville Flying Fox re-location campaign came to an end on 1 November 2023. We thank the community for their patience during the disruptive period and empathise with those that were impacted.

The campaign was successful in relocating the roost to a new site that is suitable for the animals, with big trees and cooler micro-climate, within Pelican Creek. There are approximately 1500 Black Flying Fox in the new roost, with a very small number that continue to attempt to roost in Collinsville township.

Moving forward, Council will continue the maintenance phase of the program, upskilling key staff to respond to future flying fox problems in the community. To assist the maintenance phase, please contact Council to report the presence of Flying fox roosting in urban areas during the day. Residents may undertake their own actions to disturb and deter the Flying fox by using noise, smoke and lights.

Flying fox may still move through the township and feed on trees at night – this is normal, and the council will not be responding to this type of Flying fox activity.
