Consultation has concluded
July 2026 - Dingo Beach Swimming Enclosure now open!
Council has completed construction of the new permanent Swimming Enclosure at Dingo Beach, which is now open to the public.
This much-loved community asset was damaged during Cyclone Kirrily in January 2024 and has now been completely rebuilt following community consultation that attracted more than 600 submissions.
A temporary stinger net has been in place during stinger season while the enclosure was rebuilt and has now been removed.
The new secure timber-frame structure provides beachgoers with added year-round protection from marine stingers.
2024 Consultation results
We thank the community for having their say on options for the Dingo Beach Swimming Enclosure, which included:
Re-newing the existing swimming enclosure, including temporary stinger net during stinger seasons until re-built
Demolishing the existing swimming enclosure and permanently replace with a stinger net during stinger seasons
Demolishing the existing swimming enclosure, with no net replacement
Strong support to repair the existing permanent swimming enclosure, including a temporary stinger net during stinger season until the enclosure is repaired.
The enclosure is well utilised by residents and visitors throughout the Region.
Value the existing permanent enclosure for its all-year-round permanence, character, sense of safety and security.
Some users haven’t been swimming since the enclosure was damaged, due to fear of shark sightings in the area.
The enclosure is an important facility for families, allowing kids a safe and secure place to play at all tides
We would also like residents to be aware of potential impacts of residential lighting on turtle nesting. Check out the Brochure developed by Reef Catchments for more information!
