Consultation results and next steps

  • General support for plan vision, mission and outcomes, with recommendations placing emphasis on unity and environmental sustainability/stewardship
  • Support for recognising our diverse industry economic advantage and desire to see action in the delivery of catalyst economic drivers, in a manner that is environmentally sustainable and protective of our lifestyle
  • Strong support for promoting investment in sports, recreation and arts, particularly expanded event programming, artist galleries/trail and beautification of public spaces by artists
  • Support for improving management of weed and pest threats
  • Desire to improve investment, resourcing, education and policies that enhance our natural assets as the urban footprint expands, including protected habitats, wildlife corridors, enhancing urban canopies/shading, mass re-vegetation and mature ‘habitat tree’ retention in development
  • Support for an organisational review to improve cost efficiency of service delivery and ensure alignment with community interests in Council decisions
  • Strong support for infrastructure investment to cater for growth, particularly in the Airlie Beach to Proserpine corridor
  • Desire for improved town planning outcomes and infrastructure delivery that align with lifestyle expectations and are environmentally sustainable

Council will consider consultation results when deciding upon next steps for the Draft Whitsunday Corporate Plan 2025 - 2030 within an upcoming workshop with elected members. It is anticipated that the final Plan will be considered by Council at a Council meeting in March / April. We will notify submitters of adoption of the final plan.

Feedback received will be considered by all Departments when developing projects associated with focus areas set out within the Plan.

Whitsunday Regional Council sought feedback on our draft Corporate Plan 2025 - 2030, to update and replace the existing Corporate Plan 2021 - 2026. The corporate plan is the primary strategic document that all other strategies, actions and decisions of Council flow from. It defines the overall strategic direction Council has committed to implementing and advocating as we work to harness new opportunities for the Whitsunday Region.

Corporate Plan themes included:

  • Our Economy - We plan for growth with the future needs of the community, business and industry in mind.
  • Our Community - Our places and spaces enhance the liveability and diversity of our communities.
  • Our Environment - Our region is resilient and celebrates its natural assets
  • Our Council - People, business and community
  • Our Infrastructure - Our region has infrastructure that meets current and future needs.
