Opening Celebration on Friday 28 September

Council and Bowen Tourism hosted a celebration open day on Friday 28 September, where the community could view the completed tanks up close and walk inside the fence, around the perimeter of both tanks.

The opening included a free sausage sizzle facilitated by the Bowen PCYC, face-painting by the RUBY Crew, Mr Whipsunday and the Coffee Cruiser van.

Background

Bowen Tourism and Business, together with Whitsunday Regional Council, asked residents to have their say in August-September 2017 and in February 2018 on a new mural to replace 'Bowenwood' on the Bowen water reservoir.

The new mural aims to:

  • attract visitors from the highway into Bowen
  • explore the beautiful beaches and rural life
  • show Bowen's unique heritage and history

The mural was designed and painted by well-known mural artists Phantast Cultural Music and Arts Association.

Phantast prides itself on inviting the community to be involved and participate in the both the design and painting of the mural.

The mural will be finished by the end of September 2018.

This project has been made possible with a Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) grant to Bowen Tourism and Business. The RADF is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Whitsunday Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
