Council is updating parking arrangements across Airlie Beach (including Council-owned parks at Coral Sea Marina and Port of Airlie), Cannonvale Foreshore, Shingley Beach and Shute Harbour, with minor time-limit refinements, smarter parking monitoring technology and reduced parking infringement costs.
These changes respond to growing demand in key activity precincts and are designed to improve parking availability, support local business accessibility and help plan for investment in future parking supply.
To support a reduction in parking infringement costs, an amendment is required to Subordinate Local Law No.5 (Parking) 2014, to amend the penalty unit for parking infringements, applying across the region.
Penalty units on parking offences are either remaining the same or being reduced. For example, offences for non payment and overstays reduced from 1 penalty unit to 0.75. The exception being accessible parking, increasing to 4 penalty units for non-permit holders.
Due to the amendment being minimal in nature and its intent is to reduce the impact on community, a short consultation period will satisfy statutory obligations for amending Local Laws.
Consultation will be open for one week (7 days) between Thursday 28 May and Friday 5 June 2026.
