New Starfish roundabout in Airlie Beach

Consultation has concluded

Airlie Beach visitors and residents will soon be welcomed into the main street by a brand new starfish roundabout design.

Designed by Creative Tiling, a local Whitsundays business, the new starfish will be installed from Monday 29 May.

Replacing the old design which was removed a year ago, the new starfish will be a colourful mosaic which will complement the nearby ‘Airlie Beach, Heart of the Reef’ entry statement.

Made up of thousands of small pieces of tile which have been prepared off site, the mosaic will be put back together on site like a large jigsaw puzzle.

The new starfish will be bright, colourful and easy to clean, and would help rejuvenate the roundabout and entry into Airlie Beach.

The new starfish is also significantly cheaper than the alternatives and will require less ongoing maintenance, which will reduce costs for the community in the long-term.

The tiling works are expected to be completed within a week, weather permitting, and during this time there will be traffic management in place near the roundabout.
