Consultation results and next steps
We thank the community for having their say on the second extended hours trial at the Cannonvale Library from Thursday 21 March - 29 June 2024. The second trial was open for a longer period of time to test use and options for adult programming during the extended hours times, which was recognised as a priority from community feedback.
The extended hours applied on the following days:
Thursdays: 8:15 am to 6:45 pm (previously 4:45pm)
Saturdays: 8:45 am to 12:45 pm (previously 11:45am)
The majority of respondents considered the extended hours on both Thursdays and Saturdays to be beneficial.
Majority of respondents would like the extended hours continued permanently on both days.
Some users identified potential for longer hours during the week and on Saturdays as well as opening on Sundays.
Benefits of extended hours were realised by persons who work during the week.
We also received feedback following our Cannonvale Library extended opening hours trial held from Thursday 2 November 2023 to Saturday 27 January 2024. See our Consultation summary and Consultation report to view feedback received during the previous trial. Highlights included:
Majority of respondents found the extended hours convenient, with Saturdays considered the most beneficial.
Some users identified potential for longer hours on weekends and hosting weekend courses/workshops.
Benefits of extended hours were realised by persons who work throughout the day during the week or play Saturday morning sport.
We trialled community use of extended hours to understand the cost / benefit for ratepayers and measure the benefit to the community of extended hours,
