Shute Harbour Cruise Ship Anchorage Investigation

We are investigating a new cruise ship anchorage near Shute Harbour to better accommodate visitation, improve guest experience and attract more cruise ships to visit the Whitsunday Region.

Currently, six large and three small cruise ship and super yacht anchorage areas exist in Whitsunday Plan of Management area, with the nearest to Shute Harbour known as Port Molle, approximately 5.5km away from Port. Since Shute Harbour’s recent rebuild, it has secured a number of major cruise ship visitations, with negotiations underway for additional cruise ship companies to visit the Region in the near future.

Next steps in the approval process include developing an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for consideration by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GRMPA).
