Storm season in the Whitsundays is from November to April and WRC plays an essential role in ensuring the community is prepared. In the past 2 years the Region has experienced significant growth post COVID, predominately from migration. Approximately 2,671 persons migrated to the Region from non-cyclonic areas between 2020 – 2021, with this number potentially double when including 2021 – 2022 statistics (data released in October).
To support new and existing residents in the lead up to the storm season, the Disaster Management Branch are seeking expressions of interest from residents, business, organisations and accommodation providers to participate in information workshops that will assist disaster preparedness and business continuity planning.
Workshops will provide information and guidance on building community resilience for interested residents and businesses, including:
Residents’ information workshop for storm season preparation
Storm season business continuity planning workshop, and
Business and organisations workshop to identify opportunities to play a role in community resilience, by sharing disaster preparedness and recovery resources alongside marketing their own brand.
Workshops will be held in October - November, throughout the Region. Interested participants will be notified by mid-October of proposed locations and timing.
