We are upgrading 1,065m of footpath on Renwick Road to 3m wide &lsquo;shared path standard&rsquo;, from Gardenia Street to Stanbury Street!The proposed project will be undertaken between April 2024 - March 2025, completed in several 200m stages to minimise impacts.Renwick Road forms an essential part of the Proserpine active transport network, servicing three schools, Keith Johns Estate Park and residential areas. The proposed project aims improve the safety of pedestrians and cyclists by widening the existing concrete footpaths in Renwick Road between Gardenia Street &amp; Stanbury Street. The footpath section was listed as a high priority on the Principal Cycle Network Plan. We apologise for the temporary inconvenience of the works and will manage impacts with local residents. Waite Creek Footpath Network & Bollards

Airlie Beach & Cannonvale Bathing Reserves

We will be undertaking a second extended hours trial at the Cannonvale Library from Thursday 21 March - 29 June 2024. A second trial is underway for a longer period of time to test use and options for adult programming during the extended hours times, which was recognised as a priority from community feedback. The extended hours will only apply on the following days:<ul><li>Thursdays: 8:15 am to 6:45 pm (previously 4:45pm)</li><li>Saturdays: 8:45 am to 12:45 pm (previously 11:45am)</li></ul>We received good feedback following our Cannonvale Library extended opening hours trial held from Thursday 2 November 2023 to Saturday 27 January 2024. Highlights included:<ul><li>Majority of respondents found the extended hours convenient, with Saturdays considered the most beneficial.</li><li>Some users identified potential for longer hours on weekends and hosting weekend courses/workshops.</li><li>Benefits of extended hours were realised by persons who work throughout the day during the week or play Saturday morning sport.</li></ul>We are trialling community use of extended hours to understand the cost / benefit for ratepayers. In order to measure the benefit to the community of extended hours, we are interested to hear your feedback via the short survey below.

We have installed temporary lights in Hansen, Lions, Case and Barker Parks in Bowen to improve use, visibility and pedestrian safety along the pathways.A total of 30 temporary solar-powered lights were installed in December 2023 in response to community feedback, which highlighted the need for improved park lighting.Check out our <a href="https://yoursay.whitsundayrc.qld.gov.au/92934/widgets/433214/documents/286177" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">fact sheet</a> for more information.Council is now seeking feedback from the community about the temporary lights, their placement and if they have improved use and safety for park users.Community consultation will also help to determine the most suitable and cost-effective options for a permanent light design, which will be subject to community feedback and funding.Consultation will be open to residents and visitors from Monday 27 May &ndash; Sunday 30 June 2024.At the end of the trial, the temporary lights will remain in the parks and Council will utilise feedback to design a solution for permanent lights in the Foreshore to be delivered in future capital budgets.We are interested to hear your feedback via the short survey below.We are also expanding our Bowen Recycled Water Network into Grays Bay Foreshore Parks from 1 July. Grays Bay Temporary Lighting Trial

We are seeking feedback to develop a Collinsville Roost Management Plan and Region-wide Flying Fox Strategy, that informs how we budget, resource and manage Flying fox management actions into the future. Currently, only one urban roost exists in Collinsville, however, several roosts have appeared in urban areas in the past, most recently in Proserpine. Flying-foxes are a keystone species, for their critical role in long-distance pollination and seed dispersal. These ecosystem services are particularly important over fragmented landscapes and to allow forests to adapt to threats such as climate change.Within the Whitsunday Region, two species are most prevalent:<ul><li>Little Red Flying Fox &ndash; migratory, often appearing in our Region from June - November</li><li>Black Flying Fox</li></ul>The activities of Flying foxes sometimes bring them into conflict with residents. Primary concerns include noise, odour, droppings, feeding on fruit trees, human health and disease.Presently, there are several roosts within our Region, with a major roost creating the greatest impact for people located in the urban area of Collinsville. The roost fluctuates in numbers throughout the year, with an endemic population of Black Flying Fox ranging from a few hundred to 1,600 (end of May 2024). The annual migration of Little Red Flying Fox from June &ndash; November results in peaks of over 26,000.

Council is seeking community sentiment on options for swimming safely during stinger season at Dingo Beach.
